MUZZLELOADING DEER SEASON

2.1 MAINLAND MUZZLELOADING SEASON AND BAG LIMITS:

Permits may be purchased at any time. November 4 – November 29, 2009 on state and private land. Unused either sex permit may be used to harvest one (1) antlerless deer during the late season, December 26, 2009January 2, 2010.

2.2 JAMESTOWN (CONANICUT ISLAND)/AQUIDNECK ISLAND MUZZLELOADING SEASON AND BAG LIMITS:

Jamestown (Conanicut Island)/Aquidneck Island muzzleloader deer hunters may purchase permits to take three (3) deer; one (1) either sex, and two (2) antlerless as described below:

Permit Required

a) Either sex- November 4 – November 29, 2009
b) Antlerless- November 7 – November 29, 2009 and December 26, 2009 – January 2, 2010
2.3 A current muzzleloader deer permit is required for the muzzleloading season. As denoted in 1.2, all deer must be conspicuously tagged by the hunter killing same immediately after killing or taking as provided, and taken by that same hunter to a state-operated checking station within 24 hours during the first three (3) days of the season, November 4-6, 2009. (See 1.2 for checking during the remainder of the season).

PART III DEER - SHOTGUN DEER SEASON

3.1 MAINLAND SHOTGUN SEASON AND BAG LIMITS:

Shotgun deer hunters may purchase permits to take three (3) deer; one (1) either sex and two (2) antlerless as described below:
Permit Required
A. EITHER SEX SHOTGUN PERMIT – One (1) either sex deer may be taken in Providence, Kent, and Bristol counties, all of Washington County (except New Shoreham, a.k.a. Block Island), and the towns of Tiverton and Little Compton.
December 5-13, 2009 on state and private lands. December 14-20, 2009 on private land only. Permits may be purchased at any time.
B. ANTLERLESS SHOTGUN PERMITS – Two (2) antlerless deer may be taken in Providence, Kent, and Bristol counties, all of Washington County (except New Shoreham, a.k.a. Block Island), and the towns of Tiverton and Little Compton. Permits may be purchased at any time.
December 5-13, 2009 on state and private land.
December 14-20, 2009; private land only.
December 26, 2009 January 2, 2010; private land only.

3.2 JAMESTOWN (CONANICUT ISLAND)/AQUIDNECK ISLAND SHOTGUN SEASON AND BAG LIMITS:

Jamestown (Conanicut Island)/ Aquidneck Island Shotgun deer hunters may purchase permits to take three (3) deer; one (1) either sex, and two (2) antlerless as described below:

3.5 A current shotgun deer permit is required for the shotgun season. As denoted in 1.2, all deer must be conspicuously tagged by the hunter killing same immediately after killing or taking as provided, and taken by that same hunter to a state-operated checking station for checking within 24 hours during the first three (3) days of the shotgun season, December 5-7, 2009. (See 1.2 for checking during the remainder of the season).
3.8 All other hunting, except otherwise provided, under 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 9.2, 9.3, and 11.9 is prohibited during the period of December 6-21, 2009, December 26, 2009 – January 2, 2010.

PART IV DEER - ARCHERY DEER SEASON

4.1 MAINLAND ARCHERY SEASON AND BAG LIMITS:

October 1, 2009– January 31, 2010 inclusive.

4.2 JAMESTOWN (CONANICUT ISLAND)/AQUIDNECK ISLAND ARCHERY SEASON AND BAG LIMITS:

Jamestown (Conanicut Island)/Aquidneck Island archery hunters may purchase permits to take three (3) deer: one (1) either sex and two (2) antlerless, except as provided under 4.3.
Permit required:
(a)
Either sex permit October 1, 2009 - January 31, 2010
(b)
Antlerless permit October 1, 2009 - January 31, 2010
4.3 Archery deer hunting is permitted during Junior Archery Hunting Weekend: September 19-20, 2009 for those junior hunters (ages 12-14) in possession of a valid Rhode Island Junior Hunting License. Junior hunters must be accompanied by at least one parent or legal guardian who is at least 21 years of age or older and holds a valid Rhode Island hunting/archery license. An adult may accompany no more than two junior hunters at one time. Adults are prohibited from carrying bows. Junior hunters may use either sex or antlerless archery permits as provided for in 4.1.

PART V SPECIAL DEER SEASONS

Prudence and Patience Islands
5.1 Prudence and Patience Island archery season dates are: October 30, 2009 – January 16, 2010.
5.1.1 Junior Archery – Prudence and Patience Islands archery season dates are October 17-18, 2009.
5.5.1 Archery deer hunting will be permitted on the Heritage Property, December 1-15, 2009. Archers will be limited to the taking of antlerless deer only. Archers may utilize either sex or antlerless permits provided that they take antlerless deer only.
5.5.2 Reservations are required to hunt the Heritage Property. Reservations will be valid for three (3) consecutive days: December 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, and 13-15, 2009.
5.6 A quota of 50 deer may be taken on state land to include 25 from the south end, or as provided in section 5.9. Hunting on state portions of Prudence and Patience Islands will end January 16, 2010 or when quota is reached.
5.12 On Prudence Island, during the period October 1, 2009 through January 16, 2010 inclusive, the casting of rays of artificial lights, including spotlights, headlights, or other artificial light, at any time, on any highway or roadway, whether public or private, or on any field, woodland, residential property, or forest, or on any building or farm animal, for the purpose of spotting, locating, or attempting to spot or locate any wild animal or wild bird is prohibited.
5.15 Junior Archery Season – Prudence Island: Archery deer hunting is permitted during Junior Archery Hunting Weekend; October 17-18, 2009 for those junior hunters (ages 12-14) in possession of a valid Rhode Island Junior Hunting License. Junior hunters must be accompanied by at least one (1) parent or legal guardian who is at least 21 years of age or older and holds a valid Rhode Island hunting/archery license. An adult may accompany no more than two (2) junior hunters at one time. Adults are prohibited from carrying bows. Junior hunters may use either sex or antlerless archery permit as provided for in 5.2.
Paraplegic and double amputee hunters on Prudence Island, Portsmouth; and Fort Greene Army Reserve, Narragansett
5.16 The season for the South End Management Area hunt on Prudence Island will be: October 13-16, 2009 inclusive; and The season for Fort Greene will be: October 20-23, 2009, inclusive, during legal shooting hours. Availability of the Ft. Greene facility may be subject to change.

PART VI Block Island Deer Season

6.1 Deer hunting season dates for the Town of New Shoreham (Block Island) is as follows:
Archery:
October 13,14,15,16,19,20,21,22,23,26,28,29,30, 2009. November 2,3,4,5,6,9,10,12,13,16,17,19,20, 2009
Shotgun:
November 23 and 24, 2009 December 1,2,3,4,7,8,10,11,14,15,17,18,21,22, 2009 January 4,5,7,8,11,12,13,14,15,19,21,22,25,26,29, 2010 February 1,2,3,4,5,8,9,10,11,12,22,23,24,25,26, 2010.
Muzzleloader: (new this year) November 16,17,19,20, 2009
